Information texts linked to other curriculum areas Research / collect information on the Ancient Egyptians. Persuasive writing Why should Pharaohs be buried with their possessions? Persuade others that they should / shouldn’t. Jigsaw ‘group discussion’ e.g. One person from each ‘home’ group goes and researches a different aspect of Egyptian life. Paintings Bring Ancient Egyptian paintings to life by giving the characters voices. What might they be thinking or about to do next? Poetry in different forms Monologue / Conversation A mummy and an archaeologist – writing from different viewpoints C/C link to Geography Rivers – The Nile and the Egyptians dependency on it. Creative Writing – Write a story about a Pharaoh or another Egyptian character which contains facts about the Egyptians. – Write a mystery story - the stolen mummy?! OR mummy comes to life! – What is behind the tomb door? Newspaper article The discovery of a mummy by Howard Carter. Persuasive writing A holiday brochure advertising Egypt as a great place to visit – pyramids, climate etc. Geography NOT STUDIED RE Birth and Death Ceremonies Debate Whether, like some Hindus believe, good or bad deeds are weighed up in determining whether or not a Hindu advances towards Karma. Poetry in different forms Prayers Children to read and compare traditional Christian prayers then write their own meditation / prayer. Link to birth and death ceremonies. Epitaphs Read and write epitaphs – link into death ceremonies. Information texts on the same or similar themes Research / collect information about Hindu, Jewish and Muslim death ceremonies. Year 4 – Summer Term Science Healthy Eating Teeth Skeleton Barrier Games To encourage use of specific scientific vocabulary and improve observation skills, one child describes part of the skeleton / teeth and the other has to draw it accurately. Debates Discuss the pros and cons of children eating healthily.
