EXPERIENCE
Loyalty Logistix LTD – Software Developer
Mar 2014 – Current
Due to my increasing involvement in various development projects at Loyalty Logistix, I was offered a promotion from my
graphic design/web developer role to become a full time software developer for the company. My main responsibilities are as
a front end web developer primarily using .NET C# (MVC/Razor & Classic ASPX) and Javascript, as well as creating mobile
apps for Android and iOS using the companies personal web page framework and PhoneGap .
I have also been working as part of a development team on a large development project for a mul tinational organisation to
replace one of their existing systems. There have been 2 main facets to my work on the project, one is assisting with the
front end integration and styling of the UI using the Telerik UI system, the other has been to manage all of the
internationalisation of the product and liaise with the translators in Japan to ensure the final product is usable in both
English and Japanese.
Loyalty Logistix LTD – Graphic Designer/Web Developer
Sept 2012 – Mar 2014
At Loyalty Logistix my responsibilities incorporate both Graphic Design and Web Development.
My graphic design work includes all areas of multimedia design, including designing brochures and loyalty cards, creating
multimedia tutorial videos, creating graphics for web and email and creating advertisem ent video animations. This requires
both a good eye of design, as well as an excellent technical understanding of how graphic design techniques can be applied
across many mediums.
Equally, my web design responsibilities cover many aspects of web developme nt; from a front end development perspective I
create standalone web applications using HTML 5, CSS 3 and Javascript/JQuery, design and create multinational email
campaigns and create responsive design web pages for use in mobile applications. From a back end web development
perspective I am currently designing a multiuser system for gathering new client information using MySQL and PHP. I also
integrate content within ASP.NET frameworks using C# and the Razor syntax.
Legendary Games LTD - Web Developer
May 2012 – Sept 2012
My main responsibilities at Legendary Games are to design and implement web interfaces using HTML/CSS and
Javascript/JQuery for both web browser games, websites and web applications. The designs have to be integrated into PHP
frameworks and using AJAX functions, requiring excellent team working skills as well as the ability to understand and use
PHP to integrate the design effectively with the backend systems. All of this requires a good ability to analyse and problem
solve to ensure that the best user experience is provided to the end user.
As well as designing and implementing the interfaces, I also have to create all of the appropriate graphics, logos and icons
for various different web applications and games, which requires not only great graphic design skills but also a good
technical understanding of the graphics can be used best within the web design to produce the most eye catching and
pleasing effect with the smallest amount of downloading from the server for the end user.
One of the unique selling points of the games and applications that Legendary Games develop is the ability to play the
games on any browser enabled device, without the use of Flash. Due to this I have gained a lot of knowledge and
understanding of how web interfaces can be scaled to fit any device resolution, as well as how to make best use of existing
HTML and DOM features to produce interactive websites without having to always resort to using Flash, HTML 5 and
Javascript to create rich interactive content.
Innovation for Learning - E-Learning Developer /Artist
2009 - May 2012
Responsible for designing and creating e -learning content on a variety of subject matter for both company training and
higher education. This was created using both content management sy stems and as standalone HTML & CSS websites.
Content was created from scratch, which required both content analytical skills to develop appropriate content structure as
well as web/graphic design skills to create both HTML pages and graphic imagery to illu strate the content.
Another key area of work was to design and create interactive and imaginative content in Flash. This included animated
diagrams and illustrations, interactive games, activities and menu systems. I was also tasked with creating multiple
jQuery/Javascript plugins for adding more dynamic and rich functionality to the e -learning content. Finally, I was required to
design and create a variety of logos, web graphics, icons and buttons for many different systems, including e -learning
content, learning management systems and commercial websites.
Example: I developed a product called iPlato, which is plagiarism awareness and referencing training course. It was
developed using content from previous products as well as new content. The content was t hen aggregated, restructured and
all previous content either updated or recreated to current standards both visually and structurally, into an interactive
training course. The product was initially a standalone HTML & CSS website with interactive Flash act ivities; it was then
packaged as a SCORM compliant LMS Course.
Freelance Web Development/Personal Projects
I have undertaken multiple freelance web development projects, from small size custom HTML pages to fully functional
Wordpress/PHP shops and blogs:
Little Fabric Bazaar – Online store created for local business. Customised implementation of the OpenCart ecommerce
platform. Created custom functionality within the MVC -L structure in PHP, as well as full front end theme design and
creation. To view full website visit http://www.littlefabza.co.uk
Jumpy Man! - Jumpy Man! is a side scrolling platform game designed for mobile touch screen devices and is currently in
closed Beta testing on the Google Play Store. It is developed using HTML 5 Canvas and Web GL, implementing PIXI.js for
rendering, Buzz.js for audio and using my own Javascript game engine.
City Under the Moon – I developed a custom Wordpress theme using PHP, HTML, CSS and jQuery for an Author to
promote his novel. To view theme in use visit http://www.cityunderthemoon.com
SKILLS
Web Design & Development
Web design has always been a great passion of mine; my skills were originally self -taught, but have matured and developed
with over six years of professional experience across multiple sectors. I have the ability to design and create complex web
applications and sites using HTML, CSS, Javascript and jQuery, MySQL and PHP, and in my current role using C # ASP.NET
using both the Razor syntax and classic ASPX syntax . I am also very experienced in designing websites responsively both
mobile first and adaptively.
Graphic Design
I am extremely proficient in the use of many different pieces of graphic design s oftware, the most important of which are
Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, as well as their open source counter parts GIMP and Inkscape. A lot of my skill is
self-taught through at least 8 years of use and across many different disciplines, but I also received formal training during
my time at University. I have the ability to design and create multimedia designs for both traditional print media and the
web including, brochure designs, logos, tutorial videos, web graphics and illustrations.
Flash Animation and Programming
I am mostly self-taught but have been developing and animating in Flash for over 6 years, initially focusing on animation,
but in more recent years I’ve been developing my skills in Action Script 2 programming. I now have the ability to create a
wide range of web applications, animations and games using the platform, including importing and manipulating external
data such as XML and ASP.
3D Modelling and Animation
I have the ability to design, model, rig and animate 3D assets primaril y using Autodesk Maya, although I have also had some
experience using 3D Studio Max. My formal training in University was focused towards modelling and animating for games as
well as real time rendering techniques.
2D Animation
I have had formal training at University level for traditional animation, and since then have furthered my skill and
understanding by both reading books by great animators such as ‘Preston Blair’ and ‘Richard Williams’ and practicing the
craft for both game development and cartoon a nimation.
Game Development Techniques
I spent 4 year at the University of Derby studying Computer Games Modelling and Animation, during that time I not only
learnt how to create game ready 3D and 2D art assets, but I also studied game design, and had a gr eat deal of hands on
experience with small scale game development. I also gained experience with several game engines, including the Unreal
Engine and the Gamebryo Engine. Finally I have additional experience with a custom design pipeline for online games at
Legendary Games LTD.
QUALITIES
Creativity
I have always had a creative mind, and enjoy developing new ideas and challenging myself with new creative problems. My
choices in my school life reflect this as I always chose creative subjects to study suc h as Art & Design and Design &
Technology, all the way up to my university degree in Computer Game Modelling and Animation. Then and now I find myself
filling my spare time with other creative exploits such as web design, graphic design and game design. I derive a great
sense of accomplishment and pleasure through expressing myself creatively and enjoy nothing more that applying my
creativity to interesting creative problems and requirements.
Problem Solving
I believe I thrive in an environment where probl em solving is a key element of work, as I always find it extremely satisfying
finding answers to problems. This is why I enjoy working on web design and game development projects as they constantly
throw up challenges and problems to solve that allow me to think creatively to find innovative solutions.
Team Working
I have always found working in teams both pleasurable and successful. I have had a lot of success throughout my university
life working on game development and animation projects. During my work ing life I have often needed to work in small
teams to develop web application and games, and I have found that I am very adaptable and fit well into development
teams.
