Third Grade Weekly Spelling Choices

Put your words in alphabetical order from A to Z!

Write a poem using at least 8 of your spelling words. Underline
the words in the poem
Write a short story using at least 8 of your spelling words.
Underline the words in the story.
Write a comic strip or cartoon using at least 8 of your spelling
words. Underline each spelling word used.
Create a crossword puzzle using all of your spelling words.
Remember to write clues for each of your words. Solve the
puzzle when you are done.
Create a word search using all of your spelling words.
Remember to include a word bank with all of the words. Solve
the word search when you are done.
Make a word pyramid for each of your spelling words.
Example:

Write your spelling words five times each in your best printing.

Thesaurus-Use a thesaurus to find synonyms for your spelling
words. Write down as many synonyms you can find for each
word.
Sort your words into two or more groups. You choose how to
sort them and write your sorting rules on your paper.
For example: Group 1 – words with 4 or less letters
Group 2 – words with 5 or 6 letters
Group 3 – words with more than 7 letters
Write your spelling words five time each in your best cursive.
This is to be done only after our class has learned all of the
cursive letters!
Use each spelling word in a meaningful sentence. Underline the
spelling word.
Use a dictionary to write down each of your words and the
definition of the word.
Write down each of your spelling words and at least two words

that rhyme with each one.
Type all of your spelling words and then circle all of the vowels.
Type all of your spelling words and then circle all of the
consonants.
Make a set of flashcards for each of your words.
Cut the words or letters for each word out of a magazine or
newspaper and paste on a sheet of paper.
Use WordArt in Microsoft Word to type in each of your spelling
words.
Make a word scramble with each of your spelling words. Put
the words on one side of your paper so they are scrambled and
then unscramble the words on the other half of the paper.
Type all of the words on the computer and then next to it…type
all of the words again. This time use a strange font like
wingdings or holidays.
Write all of your words three times. First in pencil, next in
crayon, and last in marker.
Write each of your spelling down, then put each word in ABC
order. Example: plane = aelnp
Add up the dollar amount of each of your spelling words by
using the code:
a-e= $1.00
f-j= $2.00
k-o =
$3.00
p-t= $4.00
u-z= $5.00
Example: shave = $4.00+$2.00+$1.00+$5.00+$1.00 = $13.00
Rainbow words-Write your words in pencil and then outline the
letters in three different colors of markers or crayons.
Write your spelling words using a stencil.
Use a computer to type all of your spelling words and make sure
each word is in a different font or font size.
