PLATE TECTONIC PROCESSES
DIVERGENCE: when the plates move apart.
When the plates move apart, new land is created (made).
CONVERGENCE: when the plates collide (bang into each other).
When two plates collide, two things can happen.
1. If one plate is thin and one plate is thick, when they collide the thin plate will get
forced under the thicker plate and will create a trench.
2. If both plates are of the same thickness, when they collide the plates will push up
and create mountains.
SLIDING: when two plates move beside each other in different directions.
When the plates try to slide beside each other, pressure can build up. When the
pressure is released, an earthquake occurs.
