About the Presentations:
DSM-5 and ICD-10: What you Need to Know Now
Lourie Reichenberg, MA, LPC
Although the DSM-5 resulted in the elimination of disorders such as hypochondriasis and Asperger’s
Syndrome, it also enhanced the diagnostic utility of many of the disorders, including substance abuse
bipolar disorders, mood disorders, and PTSD. This session will provide the information you need to be
up-to-speed, including criteria for the newest disorders (BED, PMDD, DMDD, hoarding) and some of the
lesser known specifiers and documentation that are now required. Lourie W. Reichenberg, LPC, author of
DSM-5 Essentials, provides an update on DSM-5 and the changes that affect the ICD-10 codes. Learn
what you need to know now to make accurate diagnoses.
Ethical Considerations for the use of Social Media in Clinical Behavioral Health
Joanne M. Moore, LPC, NCC, BCETS, CCH
In an age of ever greater use of social media and participation in the communities it creates, clinicians are
coming to understand that establishing and maintaining a clinical social media presence is an important
aspect of marketing their services and communicating with the public.
In the brief time since social media exploded on the counseling and psychotherapy scene, the number of
apps, programs, website designs, blogs, and more have proliferated exponentially making it necessary
for professional organizations and regulatory agencies to establish ethical and legal standards to govern
and inform their use. Yet, many clinicians are unaware of their ethical or legal obligations if they opt to
extend their professional presence into the social media arena.
Clinicians should be aware of the advancements in the world of social media and remain abreast of
developments. This workshop is designed to facilitate this knowledge. It is also established to inform
participants regarding the ethical and legal implementation and maintenance of social media presence in
clinical behavioral health practice by:
o
o
o
o
Providing clear guidance regarding the advantages and potential risks of implementing clinically
focused social media
Examining the Social Media types to determine those that are useful for clinical purposes.
Exploring the legal and ethical requirements for the use of social media in clinical practice.
Offering recommendations that can simplify these processes and facilitate profitability and
compliance.
Clinical Psychopharmacology
Michael Jeffrey, LPC, LMFT
We have reached the point with medication that we can target certain medications to certain symptoms.
With this knowledge, a counselor could point out what the best research says about medication and
symptoms so as to advise a client to seek out their primary care doctor for psychiatric medication, rather
than wait two months to see a psychiatrist. There are also genetic issues that play out with medication for
symptoms. The groups of disorders covered will be Major Depressive Disorder, atypical depression,
anxiety, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD and Borderline Personality Disorder.
