In 2500 B.C. the first Indian civilization arose along the Indus River valley. Archaeologists
have found remains of impressive cities, but little is known about the civilization that
produced the cities. Roads were laid out in a grid pattern and each city was built on a hill
with a structure that was a fortless or temple. Enormous granaries stored crops that were
grown in outlying villages.

Hinduism had no single founder or no single sacred text. Hinduism beliefs grew out of
overlapping beliefs. God is one of their beliefs, but the people know by many names,
such as a powerful spiritual force called Brahman, life of human soul and connections of
all life. Atman is a Hindu belief that states every person has and essential of all lives.
Moksha states individuals must free self from selfish desires.

Historians claim that women enjoyed equal status with men in India. Women were
educated, had a big say in family matters, made important decisions in life, and were free
to choose their own husbands. The ancient system of “Swayamvara” is mention in the
holy scripts and also in many epics. Woman in Ancient India was respected and by giving
them importance in society. Marriage as a child was unheard of and many women were
famous sages. Over time women started to lose their importance. The freedom given to
women was curtailed slowly, and they were not allowed to voice opinions in political
matters in their society.

not even a single route. The Silk Road was a name given to any route that led across

something the other wanted. Rome had gold and silver and precious gems. China had
