SPELLING MENU FOR ALL GROUPS
(Keep this in your spelling Ziploc bag at all times!!)
** SPECIAL NOTE: If you have pictures only this week, you only
need to practice sorting the pictures. You do not have to turn in
any written homework this week.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night, please pick ONE of the
following assignments for your Word Study Homework each night
to complete (ONE PER NIGHT!). Return to your ziploc bag for
class each day. Work should be completed on lined notebook
paper, if possible. You do not need to complete these in any
special order, just one per night.
On Thursday night, take a practice spelling and Word Wall. Have
fun!
* Sort words. Choose 8 words and write each one 3 times.
Illustrate each word you chose with a picture.
* Sort words. Rainbow spell each word study word (each letter in
word is a different color).
* Sort words. Use 5 of your spelling words to write 5 different
sentences.
* Sort words. Make up a poem using at least 3 words from your
word list.
*Sort your words and pictures. Pyramid write your words (draw a
pyramid/triangle. Inside triangle, write the word as follows:
Begin with one letter at the top, then two letters, then three
letters, and so on).
OVER 
* Speed sort your words/pictures. See if you can beat your
time. Speed sort at least 2 times. Write your times down on a
piece of paper and return it to school tomorrow.
* Sort your words. Write them in ABC order.
* Newspaper/Magazine Hunt. Cut out 5 or more of your words
from the newspaper or magazines. Glue to a piece of paper.
* Word Scramble. Choose 8 of your spelling words. Mix up the
letters to scramble the word. Write the scrambled words on a
piece of paper. Make a word bank at the bottom so that a friend
can unscramble your words.
* Definitions. Use a dictionary to look up the meanings of 8 of
your words. Write them on a piece of paper.
* Word Chains. Choose 5 spelling words. Write each word going
across the page. Change one letter in the word to make a new
word. Change one letter in the new word to make another new
word. Keep going until you can’t do anymore! Example: big  dig
 dog  bog  bag  bay.
* Story. Use 6 or more spelling words to write a creative story.
Underline the spelling words.
* Syllables . Write your words. Clap the syllables. Write down
the number of syllables in each word.
* Rhyming Words. Write 8 of your spelling words on the left.
Write a word that rhymes with each spelling word on the right.
