CONSITUTION FOR REVOLUTION CHRISTIAN SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB
ARTICLE I. NAME & OBJECTIVES
Section A. The name of the organization shall be the Revolution Christian Social Justice Club.
Section B.
The purpose of the club is:
to provide students with a way to connect with other students that are interested in social justice.
to connect socially minded students with opportunities to serve in diverse settings in Toronto and
the York Community.
to provide peer mentoring and education about spiritual and social issues.
to organize and participate in events that promote social justice in Toronto and the world.
ARTICLE II. INTERPRETATION
Interpreters: The President and Vice President are sole interpreters of this constitution and will
ensure all parties and members are aware of its content and consequences. The Constitution shall
be in accordance with York University’s Constitution policies
ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP
Members: Membership to Revolution Christian Social Justice Club is open to all York University
students, staff and faculties. The yearly membership fee will be determined by the President and
Vice President.
Attendance General meeting will be held at least once a month. Membership can be revoked if
any member actively participates verbally or physically in any action that violates York
University policies and guidelines, federal and provincial laws and the Ontario Human Rights
Code.
ARTICLE IV. MEETING PROCEDURES
Meetings shall occur monthly. The president has the responsibility of calling meetings. The
president shall notify members of meetings through email one week prior to the meeting to be
held. All members have voting and speaking privileges at meetings. When a tie may occur after
a vote, the president may have the deciding vote. Emergency meetings may be called by the
president or vice-president and members should be given at least twenty-four hours notice of the
meeting.
ARTICLE V. QUORUM
Refers to the process of voting, and the amount of votes which will determine a "winner"
Most clubs write something like this: Quorum consists of a 51% (majority) vote of the member present at
that meeting
ARTICLE VI. OFFICERS, QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES
Section A.
The officers of the organization shall be the following: President, Vice-President, and Treasurer.
Section B.
The duties of the officers shall be as follows:
President: The president should act in the best interest of the Revolution Christian Social Justice
Club and its members. They must ensure that all meetings are conducted in a fair and just
manner. The president must handle all complaints and disputes that occur within the organization.
The president is one of the signing authorities
Vice President: The Vice President takes on the leading role of the Revolution Christian Social
Justice Club in the absence of the president. They are responsible for scheduling meetings,
following up on all projects on the go and making sure they are running smoothly. The Vice
President is the second signing authority
Treasure: The Treasurer is responsible to record minutes from all Revolution Christian Social
Justice Club meetings. They are responsible for scheduling meetings, keeping records of all
relevant information,
raising money, taking attendance at the meetings and for recruiting new members.
Section D.
The duties of the officers shall be as follows:
Secretary: The Secretary is responsible to head the organization of club events.
Chief Returning Officer: The Chief Returning Officer is responsible for preparing and
overseeing the election of the officers.
C.C.: The Communication Chair will ensue that all meetings are run fairly in a professional
manner and make sure all voices are heard. The C.C. will update members about future meeting
schedules and important information
General: The General Members are responsible to complete any task they volunteer to do. In the
event they cannot complete their task, they must notify the Treasurer immediately and try to find
a replacement. Each member has the right to vote and each vote is weighed equally
Article VI: ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The term of office shall be for one year beginning on every May 1st.
Nominations shall take place on every March 16. Positions of office are open to members of the
club in good standing.
Votes shall be counted by the Chief Returning Officer
Special elections will take place if a vacancy occurs for any position within the organization.
Elections for vacant positions should take place within one month of the vacancy. Members shall
be notified of the details of the special elections by email.
Any disputes that may arise as the result of an election should be decided by the CRO.
ARTICLE VIII. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Definition: Conflict of Interest occurs when one or both of the following are satisfied:
1. Any member interferes with the aim of the organization
2. Any member acts in a manner that provides them personal gain from the organization
consists of an individual personally benefiting from an event or the club itself. This individual
should make this clear so to remove him/herself from the group or event. Also, the removal of a
member is not up to the president, but rather should be to a vote.
ARTICLE IX. PROCEDURES REGARDING ALLEGATIONS OF WRONGDOING AND
DISCIPLINARY ACTION
Any allegations of wrongdoing brought against any member, should be communicated to that
member by the President of Vice-President. The member should be given an opportunity to
defend him/herself. If the allegation is substanciated, the member should be given the
opportunity to correct their behaviour within a reasonable amount of time. The member may
have their membership suspended for that period of time. If the member does not comply within
the given timeframe, the member may be removed from the club. When a member is found to
have commited certain gross actions such as physical abuse, sexual harassment, or discrimination,
the member may be removed immediately.
Allegations of wrongdoing: Must have a vote for the accused to be removed. The individual in
question and those involved in the conflict situation may not vote.
In the event, the President is shown to not live up to his/her duties, or has shown to violate the
one or both statements of conflict of interest outlined above, the Honorary Executive shall have
the final say and this power extends to removing the President from office. However, the
Honorary President can only remove the President when and only when he/she has the support of

ARTICLE X. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The President and Vice-President are the sole signing authorities. The responsibility for creating
the budget and financial reports is the responsibility of the treasurer. The budget must be
approved by the officers of the club.
ARTICLE XI. DUES
There will be no collection of dues.
ARTICLE XII. EXTERNAL AFFILIATIONS
This club is affiliated with Christian Centre Church.
ARTICLE XIII. BY-LAWS AND AMENDMENTS
The Constitution is subject to change when
a) On the request of the President or
b) Revolution Christian Social Justice Club members provide a written statement of which
section should be amended, the grounds for amendment, and if possible, provide an alternative
solution
Any request for amendment of the constitution must be brought before the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee has two weeks to decide if the request should be brought forth to the
general members to be voted upon or to reject the motion at the first stage.
Section A. By-laws
1. By-laws must be created by the President.
2. By-laws must be in accordance with this constitution as amended.
3. By-laws must be sponsored by at least (two) persons, one being an officer, committee chair,
etc.
4. By-laws shall be adopted by a vote of ½ of the voting body.
ARTICLE XIV. RATIFICATION
This section should state the requirements of ratification of the newly formed organization. This
constitution shall be enforced upon ratification by 3/4 of the voting body, and upon
approval of this constitution by the Clubs Registration Committee and the Centre of Student
Community & Leadership Development.
