Rome : Caravaggio was by far the best painter to have lived in his times. He trained under greats like Simone
Peterzano and Cavalier d'Arpino. He had his paintings up on church walls when we was just 20 years of age. Most
of his paintings still remain and this is your chance to see them. Not being able to handle his popularity. His fiery
personality and rebellious attitude gained him jail and death sentences. The tour features the works of the great
Caravaggio which is mostly displayed in different churches, some of which you will visit on the tour. Caravaggio's
style was mainly dominated by the Baroque culture, but his touch was innovative, his brush created vivid and lively
creations. He was both criticized and admired by his contemporaries. What they saw in his paintings was their saints
represented as common human beings, the light cutting through the dark canvas, the figures close and dramatic, they
saw life itself, their sins and the martyrs suffering in front of their eyes, back to life. He quickly earned the nickname
of the master of light, and the tour aims to he vividly see and investigate through his art and short dramatic life. The
first sight on the tour is the basilica of St. Mary of the people. This is the first of many churches on this tour. The
elegance and grace of Caravaggio's paintings fill the nave and adjacent aisles. This church houses two very beautiful
pieces in the Crucifixion of St. Peter and Conversion of St. Paul. Both the paintings have been preserved with
immense care so as to showcase the talent of the master that is Caravaggio. Next in line is the huge church of St.
Agostino which has the famous Madonna of the Pilgrims painting hung up on its walls. The Martyrdom of St.
Matthew, calling of St. Matthew and St. Matthew with the Angel are three more priceless pieces made by him. They
are stationed at the church of St. Louis of the French. The Contarelli chapel commemorates the Evangelist Matthew
and houses all the three paintings. The artwork was installed according to the will of Cardinal Matthieu after he
passed away. Locations may vary according to opening and closing hours. it is possible to increase the number of
