Literary Tour of the British Isles
“Oh the Places You’ll Go!”
Introduction:
You have recently been hired as a travel writer for a major travel magazine. You will be travelling on a virtual
journey through the British Isles this summer and will be recording details from your journey. This trip will
provide you with a deeper understanding of the cultures that you will be studying next year.
During your travels, you will discover new places, people and the rich literary history that encompasses the
British Isles. Be sure to take good notes and pictures along the way!
Task:
Travel to the following destinations, research and take notes in your TRAVEL JOURNAL on the most
important elements of the British Isles and its literary history. The notes you take in your travel journal are
vital for the presentation of your travels. You may use any of the links below or any other educational links to
help you while you travel.
Each destination that you visit has a specific assignment. Be sure to complete each assignment and write at
least 1 page in your TRAVEL JOURNAL after each day. All TRAVEL JOURNALS need to be typed. Feel
free to include pictures in your journal as well!!

To set the stage: You have recently discovered a time machine and travel
back in time to 1602 in Southwark, London, England. Here, you meet William
Shakespeare. He is working with his company on performing a new play. He
asks you to visit the Globe Theater to take a tour to learn about the history of his
theater. After taking the tour, Shakespeare asks you to create an advertisement
that publicizes the history of his theater.
Create either a commercial (YouTube video), brochure, podcast, poster or blog
that advertises the rich cultural history of the Globe Theater. Be sure to include
specific dates and information in your advertisement. Remember, the more
people know about the Globe, the more likely they’ll come to visit!
