Cell Analogy Project Name __________________________ Directions: In this project, you will be creating a eukaryotic cell and making an overall analogy for that cell. Some ideas could be: "Cell is like a factory", "Cell is like a City", "Cell is like a School", etc. Be creative but be logical and make sense! Then compare each of the organelles to an item that performs a similar function within that analogy. For example: In your cell you could compare a nucleus to a principal within a school because the principal controls all the activities in the school just like the nucleus controls the activities within the cell. Gather information from your textbook and other sources about the cell and its structures. Keep these ideas in mind when creating your cell: *Description of the structure: size, shape, composition, etc. *Where is it found in the cell? *What are its function(s) and why is it important? Where to begin checklist: ______ Fill out your “Organelle chart for the Cell Project” and make appropriate analogies. THEN GET IT APPROVED BY MR. WEESE. ______ Draw your cell with the appropriate organelles inside the cell ______ Label each organelle on your picture and describe what you are comparing that organelle to and why. EXAMPLE: “I compared the nucleus to a __________ because the nucleus controls all activities of the cell just like the ________ controls the activity in a _______________.” ______ Find or draw a picture to place next to each labeled organelle of the item you are comparing the organelle to. Name ______________________ Title: "My Cell Is like a _________________" My cell is a____________ (plant or animal) cell, therefore the following organelles cannot be found in my cell: What did you How are the two similar? Organelle or Function in Cell compared it Structure to? " The Nucleus contains all the genetic material and controls all activities of the cell, just like the principal holds student records and controls all activities in the school." Nucleus Ribosomes Cell Membrane Golgi Apparatus Chloroplast Cell Wall Vacuole Mitochondria Lysosomes **When you have completed your poster, staple your chart to the back so they can be read.
