Pre-AP World History Class Schedule 2/16-2/19 Reminders: Start learning the map ASAP—we will have the map quiz Thursday 2/25!! Don’t forget to review your notes and vocabulary nightly! Monday 2/15: No School Tuesday 2/16: Discuss South Asia test—pretest early civilizations of East Asia Wednesday 2/17: Class Activity—East Asia map work Reading—Read the typed physical geography notes over East Asia that you received in class on Tuesday. Remember…reading the physical geography notes BEFORE you work on the map can make it easier to complete your map because you may already know the general location of features and/or better understand what they are and why they are important! Thursday 2/18: Essential Question for Discussion—How did geography impact the development of civilization in the Huang He River Valley? Reading—no reading for tonight Friday 2/19: Essential Question for Discussion—What were the major achievements of the Shang Dynasty? Reading in Text Chapter 2 section 4; pages 50-53—THEN the handout given to you in class—just read “The Shang Period” and the last page on “Divination in Ancient Societies” Remember to take SPRITE+G notes in the World History book first then ADD to your notes from the handout reading. Don’t forget to define and highlight vocabulary in your notes as you read! Georgia Performance Standards Utilized: SSWG5 The student will describe the interaction of physical and human systems that have shaped contemporary South Asia, Southeastern Asia, and Eastern Asia. Describe the location of major physical features and their impact on the regions of Asia. Describe the major climates of each region and how they have affected each region’s development. Analyze the impact of the topography and climate on population distribution in the regions. Describe the various ethnic and religious groups in the region and the effect of geography on their development and their major customs and traditions. Describe the Pacific Rim and its cultural, political, and economic significance. SSWH2 The student will identify the major achievements of Chinese and Indian societies from 1100 BCE to 500 CE. Describe the development of Chinese civilization under the Zhou and Qin. Explain the impact of Confucianism on Chinese culture; include the examination system, the Mandate of Heaven, the status of peasants, the status of merchants, and the patriarchal family, and explain diffusion to Southeast Asia, Japan, and Korea. Pre-AP World History Class Schedule 2/22-2/26 Reminders: Continue learning the map—we will have the map quiz this Thursday 2/25—physical and political only—no historical!! The plan at this point is to have the test over ancient East Asia on Friday 3/5. Don’t forget to review your notes and vocabulary nightly! Monday 2/22: Essential Question for Discussion: What were the major achievements of the Zhou Dynasty? Reading in Text: Chapter 2 rest of section 4; pages 54-55—THEN the rest of the handout given to you in class—“The Zhou Period” Take a new set of SPRITE notes on the Zhou Dynasty. Don’t forget to define and highlight vocabulary in your notes as you read! Tuesday 2/23: Essential Question for Discussion: How did the Warring States Period contribute to Chinese political philosophy? Daoism Reading in Text: Chapter 4 section 4; pages 104-107 (stop at “The Qin Dynasty Unifies China”). Take notes on each of the philosophies (Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism) from the text. Make sure you define vocabulary, know who inspired each philosophy and understand the important ideas. THEN read the handout (received in class on Friday) pages 1-3. Read all the background and the primary source about Daoism. Answer the “questions for analysis” on page 2 as thoughtfully and as you possible can!! Wednesday 2/24: Essential Question for Discussion: How did the Warring States Period contribute to Chinese political philosophy? Confucianism and Legalism Reading: the rest of the Handout, pages 3-6; answer “Questions for Analysis” on pages 3 and 5 as thoughtfully as you can. Thursday 2/25: MAP QUIZ—EAST ASIA!!!!! Friday 12/26: Essential Question for Discussion: What were the major contributions to civilization of the Qin Empire/Dynasty? Reading in Text: Chapter 4, Section 4; in text pages 107-109 Take new set of SPRITE notes on the Qin—from the book and THEN add to your already excellent SPRITE notes from the one page handout on the Qin Dynasty Qin is an Empire sooo—take a look at the Conrad Demarest Model of Empires as it relates to the Qin. Don’t forget to review your notes and vocabulary nightly—the vocabulary quiz is coming! Monday 3/1-Tuesday 3/2: Essential Question for Discussion: What were the major contributions to civilization of the Han Empire/Dynasty? Reading in Text for Monday: Read for Monday Chapter 7, Section 3 and take detailed thematic notes on the Han Dynasty. THEN read the handouts given to you in class on Friday and add to your already excellent SPRITE notes! Han is an Empire—be sure to take a look at the Conrad Demarest Model of Empires as it relates to the Han. Wednesday 3/3: Lost Civilizations Video—China—add to your SPRITE notes and review No new reading! Study the test is Friday! Thursday 3/4: ESSAY WRITING Friday 3/5: TEST ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS OF EAST ASIA—this test includes information on the Shang and Zhou dynasties, philosophies of the Warring States Period (Confucianism, Daoism and Legalism) and the Qin and Han Empires.
