At least two direct years’ experience of providing emotional and practical support to women. A knowledge of current general and welfare rights legislation as it affects women escaping domestic violence eg DSS and Housing Benefits. Knowledge and awareness of domestic violence issues and feminist principles and of how homelessness among women and children. An understanding of the Supporting People framework. A methodical and well-organised approach to workload and an ability to work on own initiative within a sometimes stressful setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. An ability to foster a good rapport with users of the service, colleagues as a proactive team player, and outside agencies. An ability to develop an effective working relationship with abused women.
