Layers of the Earth/Atmosphere Flipbook
Your task is to create a flipbook to review the layers of the Earth as well as learn about
the layers of the atmosphere. The requirements are as follows:









Use 4 sheets of paper to create a book with 8 flaps. Flaps should be a 1” in
height.
The following layers should be represented (from bottom to top) 5pts:
 Core
 Mantle
 Crust
 Troposphere
 Stratosphere
 Mesosphere
 Thermosphere
 Space
The tables below indicate how to format each section as well as what
information should be included 1 pt. per check box:
Core
Label Inner and
Outer core in the
correct order
List the state of
matter for each
layer
List the composition
for each layer
List the relative
density for each
layer
List the relative
pressure for each
List the relative
temperature for
each
Layers of the Earth
Mantle
 Label Mesosphere,
Asthenosphere, and
Lithosphere in the
correct order
 List the state of
matter for each
layer

density for each
layer
 List the relative
pressure for each
 List the relative
temperature for
each

Crust
Label Lithosphere,
Moho boundary,
and Crust (both
Continental and
Oceanic) in the
correct order
List the state of
matter for each
layer
List the composition
for each layer
List the relative
density for each

Troposphere
List the
composition of
Earth’s
atmosphere
Indicate how
temperature
changes with
elevation
List relative
density of the
layer
List relative
pressure of the
layer
List the height
(in km) of the
layer
List at two

happens there?)


Illustrations: Each flap should be illustrated and colored using the following
guidelines 10 pts.
 Layers of Earth: Draw the layer on each flap. The layers should not be
to scale (see teacher’s example) 4 pts.
 Layers of the atmosphere:
o Each flap should have at least one illustration that
corresponds to a significant fact for that layer. 4pts.
o The troposphere should be colored blue. As you go up, shade
each label darker. Space should be black. 2 pts.

All information in each section should be neat and legible. THIS SHOULD BE
BULLETIN BOARD QUALITY WORK! 5 pts.
