Weekly Vocabulary Activities In a Flash Create note cards of the vocabulary words and their definition or definitions and an example of the words used in a sentence. (Don’t forget to write in complete sentences.) 3 Clues Create 3 clues that could be used to help someone understand and guess the correct word. (You must use all 10 words, give 3 clues in sentence form, and provide the answers.) Tell Me a Story Use all of your words to write 1 long story. -orUse your words to write two shorter stories. Directions: Choose two of the Vocabulary activities to complete each week. Make sure you include the meaning of your words in each activity. Best/Worst In two complete paragraphs, describe the best word of the vocabulary list and the worst word of the vocabulary list. (Be creative and support your opinions in complete sentences and paragraphs. Your ideas must be very descriptive and well thoughtout.) Riddle Me This! Use the meaning of your words to write riddles. Use the spelling word as the answer to the riddle. Include the riddle and the answer for each word. Scrambles! Make it Meaningful Write your words in sentences using more than one word in each sentence. The sentences have to make sense and show that you understand the meaning of the word. Definition Crossword Create a crossword puzzle with the definition of the word as a clue. Include all 20 of your words and an answer key. Scramble your words and include the definition of the word as a clue. Have a friend or family member solve the scramble. Make sure to make an answer key for checking your “student’s” work. Circle the best example of how your letters are formed. Sounds the Same Write all ten of your spelling words in a list. Then for each of the words write three different words that start with the same beginning sounds Riddle Me This Write a riddle for each spelling word. The riddle should give clues to help someone figure out what the unknown word is Example: 1) start a) stop b) stumble c) stock Shop and Spell Use the Shop and Spell sheet to determine how much each word is ‘worth’. Show the number sentence with correct math for each spelling word. Directions: Choose 3of the Spelling activities to complete each week. Make sure you include the meaning of your words in each activity. Silly Sentences Use each of your spelling words in a sentence. Try to have most of the words begin with the same letter as the spelling word. Example: horse Holly Horse hopes for hay. Simply Similes Write ten similes using at least one spelling word in each sentence. Underline the spelling word. Remember a simile compares two things using the word like or as. Spelling word: jet Example: The phone was as loud as a jet. Word Chop Use your word list to divide the words into syllables. A syllable is a vowel sound. For five words, tell how many syllables there are in the word. For the other five words show how to separate it into syllables. Example: babies – 2 syllables macaroni – mac a ro ni Word Search Create a word search that includes all 10 spelling words. Have the words go backwards, horizontal or vertical. Make it challenging! Then have a friend try and solve it. See how long it takes them!
