Course Description: Math is a required course for all Kindergarten students. The
students will be exposed to a wide variety of number sense, computation and problem
solving activities using pencil, paper and manipulatives. The following is a list of units
and concepts that will be taught within that unit.
Unit 1- Geometry
Shapes- K.G.2, K.G.5, K.G.6
Positional Words- K.G.1
Upon completion of unit 1, your child will be able to:
 Identify circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and hexagons.
 Describe the attributes of the above listed shapes.
 Build shapes
 Identifies positional words ( above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to)
Unit 2 –Counting and Cardinality
Count Number of Objects- K.C.C.4
Compare Numbers- K.C.C.7
Sorting- K.MD.3
Upon completion of unit 2, your child will be able to:
 Count to 20.
 Count a group of objects.
 Name the number that comes after another.
 Compare numbers to 10.
 Sort object according to their attributes.
 Put groups in order by the number of objects.
Unit 3-Geometry
3 dimensional shapes- K.G.3
Comparing & create shapes- K.G.4, K.G.5
Upon completion of unit 4, your child will be able to:
 Identify cubes, cones, cylinders and spheres.

 Describe cubes, cones, cylinders and spheres.
 Compose simple shapes to make larger shapes.
Unit 4 – Counting and Cardinality
Numbers to 20- K.C.C.3, K.C.C.5
Compare Numbers to 20- K.C.C.6, K.C.C.2
Upon completion of unit 3, your child will be able to:
 Read numbers to 20.
 Write numbers to 20.
 Count a group of objects.
 Identify numbers that are greater than, less than or equal to.
 Count forward from a given number.
Unit 5-Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Addition- K.OA.1
Subtraction- K.OA.3
Addition and Subtraction K.OA.2
Upon completion of unit 5, your child will be able to:
 Add numbers in different ways.
 Subtract numbers.
 Determine whether to add or subtract.
 Use drawings or objects to solve a problem.
 Write different number sentences for a number.
 Decompose numbers to 10 in more than one way.
Unit 6-Measurement and Data
Attributes- K.MD.1, K.MD.2
Upon completion of unit 6, your child will be able to:
 Identify measureable attributes of objects.
 Describe length and weight.
 Describe the differences and similarities of two objects.
Unit 7 -Number and Operations in Base Ten- Operation and Algebraic Thinking
Place value- K.NBT.1
Fluently Add and Subtract- K.OA.5
Count to 100- K.C.C.1- end of year
Upon completion of unit 7, your child will be able to:
 Put together teen numbers using ten and ones.
 Decompose teen numbers using drawings and objects.

Fluently says addition facts to 5.
Fluently says subtraction facts from 5.
Count and identify numbers to 100.
Skip count by tens to 100.
Recall number sequence to 100.
Instructional Delivery and Assessment: Students will be given district common
assessments within each instructional unit. Teachers will utilize various formative
assessment strategies to monitor student progress and to develop instructional strategies.
Teachers will utilize various differentiated strategies.
Special Population Accommodations Lawrence County Schools adheres to all
applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines with respect to
providing reasonable accommodations for students with temporary and permanent
disabilities. The teacher will differentiate within the classroom based on the students’
individual needs.
