Liver, stomach, cervical and mouth cancers tend to predominate in the Third World while they are relatively rare or on the decrease in industrial society. Most of the cancers in the third world countries can be traced to inadequate diet or a lack of medical services such as regular check-ups to screen for certain types of cancer. Others, like liver cancer, are caused by viruses like hepatitis B - and go untreated because available vaccines are too expensive. So in this sense, Third World cancers are diseases of underdevelopment whereas cancers in developed countries mostly result from exposure to carcinogens. b- __1___ Social wellness addresses interpersonal relationships and stresses how important it is for us to enter into successful and fulfilling relationships with our family, friends, significant others, pets and others. It includes having positive interactions with and enjoying being with others. It is having comfort and ease during work and leisure situations and communicating feelings and needs to others. c- __6___ Less industrialized countries do not have the regulations that provide control of dangerous carcinogens unlike Europe or North America. Therefore, people in developing countries where herbicides and pesticides are still in common use are seriously exposed to chemical poisoning . It will be decades before we know how many cancers will result from this unsafe use. Also, in newly-industrializing countries like Brazil, Mexico, and India, legislation to protect workers from carcinogens either does not exist or is rarely enforced. However, the use of certain chemicals has either been banned or severely restricted in most industrial countries. d- __3___ Social wellness involves developing and building close friendships and intimacy; It is about our interpersonal relationships with others. However, emotional wellness is about our intrapersonal relationships with ourselves. It involves us understanding our feelings and emotions. While social wellness focuses on caring for others and for the common good, emotional wellness stresses the importance of learning more about yourself and how things you do affect your feelings. Briefly describe the general trend(s) shown in the graph below and suggest two possible factors which might explain this. 80 70 60 50 40 30 20 10 0 Life expectancy through ages Greece Rome 100 UK 1200 US 1900 US 2000 500BC (18 AD (25 (35 years) (47 years) (75 years) years) years) The graph shows life expectancy through the ages in different countries. In 500BC life expectancy was 18 in Greece. This number increased slightly by 7 years in Rome 100AD. It continued to increase steadily in the following 1100 years and life expectancy reached to 35 in UK. By 1900 life expectancy rose gradually to 47. At the beginning of 21st century this number reached its peak of 75 years. It looks as if it will continue to increase in the rest of 21st century. One of the reasons for this could be advances in medical treatment. Another reason could be people’s awareness in healthy lifestyle.
