Speller’s Choice
Here is a GIANT list of FUN ways to practice your spelling words during the week to prepare for
Friday’s test. You MUST do a DIFFERENT activity EACH day during the week to study your words.
Parents, please initial beside the activities your child completes. Please make sure your child completes
the homework activities in his/her spelling notebook. I will check the homework at the end of each week.

What it is:
Write each spelling word 3 times each in pencil, then go over
the vowels only with a crayon or marker.
Pretend you are a cheerleader and cheer (spell) out your
words to an adult.
Write the entire list of words end-to-end as one long word,
using different colors for different words. Ex. keepjeeplight
Write each of your spelling words using “fancy letters” such
as glitter, puffy, bubble letters, etc.
Backwards Words Write your words forwards, then backwards!

Clap and Spell
Write your words in different colors, making a pattern.
Ex: elephant , elephant , elephant , or elephant
Use your finger to write each word in the air. Have a parent
do the same. See if you can figure out their word!
On a piece of paper cut out letters from a newspaper or
magazine and glue the letters to spell a spelling word like this:
If you are right handed, write your words with your left hand!
If you are left handed, write your words with your right hand!
Write each spelling word, and then write 1 word that rhymes
with it. If you need to make up a word to rhyme you can. 
Write your words by arranging alphabet pasta or Alphabits.
Scramble the letters of your words and ask an adult to
unscramble them to figure out the words.
Highlight your words in a newspaper or magazine
Write your words one letter at a time to form a pyramid.
Ex:
k
ke
kee
keep
Spell your words with a partner by clapping your hands
together as you say each letter of the word.
