Comets: A large body in space made up of rock, ice and frozen gas. - Mostly made of ice - When it travels close to the sun, ice melts off and becomes a gas. This melting process cause bits of dust and debris to trail behind the comet. The trail can be seen in the night sky. Asteroids: Large body in space made of rocks and minerals • Mostly made of rock • Found in the Asteroid Belt- between Mars and Jupiter • Sometimes they can get bounced towards Earth • When they collide, pieces chip off called Meteors Meteors: Small pieces of rock that was broken off an asteroid. • The streak of light seen when a space rock enters the atmosphere and starts burning up (falling star). • Some enter the Earths atmosphere every day. • Most burn up, but if they land on Earth they are called Meteorites.
