Ecology and Evolution Final Project
You will be creating an illustrated ecology and evolution power point
or poster.
No partners! You will have two days in the library. We
will be studying both land and aquatic biomes. The land biomes are
arctic tundra, alpine tundra, coniferous forest, deciduous forest,
tropical rainforest, grasslands, and deserts. The aquatic biomes are
open ocean, estuaries, coral reefs, still waters (lakes, ponds, marshes
and bogs) and running waters (rivers and streams). You may choose
which biome you want to do. You will be graded on the finished product
and the effort displayed in the classroom and library.
The information that must be included in your project:
1. Description or graph of the climate (average seasonal temperatures
and rainfall).
2. Map of the world showing where your biome is located.
3.
A. If you are doing a poster, you need an illustration of your
biome with 3 plants, 3 invertebrates, and 4 vertebrates (both cold and
warm blooded) that live in your biome. (This must be to species, like
the Western Diamondback rattlesnake, not broad categories like “snake”.
You must label your organisms. They must be neatly illustrated and in
color. NEATNESS COUNTS.
B. If you are doing a power point you may get some pictures of
your biome from the internet and get pictures of 3 plants, 3
invertebrates, and 4 vertebrates (both cold and warm blooded) that live
in your biome.
4. Pick one plant and one animal and explain the adaptation it has
evolved that enables it to live in this environment.
5. A diagram of a food web of the area with 10 organisms named. This
does not have to be illustrated. Be sure to include producers and
consumers.
6. Make a list of 5 endangered or threatened species in your biome and
explain why they are endangered.
7. Write a well written one page report in your own words of any
environmental problems facing your biome. (Invasive species, clear
cutting of the rainforest, global warming, pollution killing coral
reefs, etc.) Include a bibliography.
Extra Credit: A poem, song, or rap about your biome. Let your creative
side out and have fun with this.
