Unit 1 Foldable Directions
1. Fold four(4) sheets of paper into a foldable with flaps- hamburger style.
2. Number the flaps 1-8 on the left.
3. Label the flaps as follows:
1. Unit 1 (this is the top flap)- write your name as well
2. Observe and Infer
Inside flap:
Define and give one example of each: qualitative observation, quantitative observation, inference,
prediction
Answer questions:
 What is the difference between an observation and inference?
 What is the difference between a qualitative and quantitative observation?
3. Variables Controls and Constants
Inside flap:
Define and give example: independent variable, dependent variable, control group, and constant
4. Scientific Method
Inside flap:
List the 6 steps of the scientific method
Define and draw examples of the types of graphs used to analyze data
5. Living Organisms
Inside flap:
List the 6 characteristics of living organisms and why they are essential
Define the 3 parts of the cell theory
6. Cells
Inside flap:
Draw a plant and animal cell, label the Nucleus, chloroplast, mitochondria, cell membrane, cell wall
List the functions of each organelle labeled on your drawing.
7. Specialized Cells
Inside flap:
List three types of animal and plant cells and their specific functions.
8. Microscopes
Inside flap:
Draw a microscope and label the parts
Describe how to focus the microscope
Describe how you prepare a slide
Describe how to find the total magnification on a microscope
