RESPOSIBILITIES OF UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATORS ADMISSIONS SUPERVISION OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS( PROMOTIONS,TENURES, EVALUATIONS) MAINTENANCE OF OFFICIAL RECORDS MAINTENANCE AND AUDIT OF FINANCIAL FLOWS AND RECORDS MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION OF CAMPUS BUILDINGS MAINTENANCE OF CAMPUS GROUNDS SAFETY AND SECURITY OF PEOPLE AND PROPERTY ON CAMPUS FUNDRAISING RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION PUBLIC AFFAIRS HEALTH CHALLENGES/ HARZARDS HARZARD : A SITUATION THAT POSES A LEVEL OF THREAT TO LIFE, HEALTH, PROPERTY OR ENVIROMENT HARZARD + POSSIBILITY = RISK FOR EFFECTIVENESS AS AN ADMINISTRATOR, IDENTIFICATION OF HARZARD RISKS IS IMPORTANT FOR AN ADMINISTRATOR TO BE UP IN THE GAMES THEN HE / SHE MUST IDENTIFY THE HARZARDS AROUND HAZARD 1 1) PHYSICAL HARZARDS: CONDITIONS / SITUATIONS THAT CAN CAUSE BODY PHYSICAL HARM OR INTENSE STRESS. -HEAT STRESS ( TROPICAL CLIMATE) -DEHYDRATION -POOR LIGHTING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT SEDENTARY LIFESTYLES FURNITURE-CHRONIC BACK ACHE INAPPROPRIATE USE OF TELECOMMUNICATIONBBS, EMAILS, PHONE CALLS ( INJURIES, RTAs etc) HARZARD 2 BIOLOGICAL HARZARDS: THESE ARE BIOLOGICAL AGENTS THAT CAN CAUSE HARM TO THE HUMAN BODY: e.g; - VIRUSES ( HIV/AIDS, EBOLA), PARASITES, BACTERIA, FUNGI - FOOD –JUNKS/FAST FOODS). EATING DISORDERS[ PUD, OBESITY] HARZARD 3 PSYCHOLOGICAL HARZARDS: EMOTIONAL, MENTAL AND SOCIAL RELATED ISSUES -WORK RELATED STRESS ISSUES( DEADLINES, MEETING PLANS, TARGETS, JOB INSECURITY, OVERLY RESTRICTIVE WORK RULES) - POOR INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS( SUPERIORS, SUBORDINATES, CASUALS) -MENTAL ILL HEALTH ISSUES -EMOTIONAL TRAUMAS- WORK DEMANDS/FAMILY ISSUES -OFFICE POLITICS INCIDENTS COMMUNICABLE DISEASES: THEY ARE INFECTIOUS DISEASES OR TRANSMISSIBLE DISEASES OR ILLNESSES , THAT RESULT FROM THE INFECTION, PRESENCE AND GROWTH OF PATHOGENIC BIOLOGIC AGENTS IN AN INDIVIDUAL HUMAN OR ANIMAL HOST. EXAMPLES : HIV/AIDS, STIs, EBOLA, FLU, TUBERCULOSIS, MEASLES NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES(NCD: MEDICAL ILLNESSES THAT ARE NOT INFECTIOUS, AND NONTRANSMISSIBLE AMONG PEOPLE. THEY MAY BE CHRONIC ILLNESSES OF LONG DURATION OR SLOW PROGRESSION. EXAMPLES : CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES, CANCERS, DIABETES, ASTHMA, CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE, EYE PROBLEMS, BONE PROBLEMS, OBESITY, MALNUTRITION, MENTAL ILL HEALTH , CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE( CKD)ETC. ATTENTION!!! THE BURDEN OF NCD IS INCREASING, ACCOUNTING FOR NEARLY HALF OF THE GLOBAL BURDEN. THE MORTALITY AND BURDEN RESULTING FROM CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES ARE RAPIDLY INCREASING IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES LIKE OURS IN NIGERIA. NCDs KILLED ALMOST 4X MANY PEOPLE THAN AS CDs SILENT KILLER STRESS; THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM AROUND THE WORLD THAT AFFECTS NOT ONLY HEALTH BUT ALSO PRODUCTIVITY/ EFFECTIVENESS SIGNIFICANT HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE CAUSES OF WORK-RELATED STRESS LONG HOURS HEAVY WORK LOAD CHANGES WITHIN THE ORGANISATION TIGHT SCHEDULES JOB INSECURITY LACK OF AUTONOMY BORING WORK INSUFFICIENT SKILLS FOR JOB OVER-SUPERVISION INADEQUATE WORKING ENVIROMENT LACK OF PROPER RESOURCES FEW PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES HARASSMENTS DISCRIMINATION POOR RELATIONSHIP WITH COLLEGUES/ BOSSES CRISIS INCIDENTS; WORKPLACE DEATH SYMPTOMS OF WORK-RELATED STRESS -1 PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS: FATIGUE MUSCULAR TENSION HEADACHES HEART PALPITATIONS SLEEPING DIFFICULTIES (INSOMNIA) GASTROINTESTINAL UPSETS ( DIARRHEA OR CONSTIPATIONS) DERMATOLOGICAL DISORDERS SYMPTOMS OF WORK-RELATED STRESS -2 PSYCHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS: DEPRESSION ANXIETY DISCOURAGEMENT IRRITABILITY PESSIMISM FEELINGS OF BEING OVERWHELMED AND UNABLE TO COPE COGNITIVE DIFFICULTIES; POOR DECISION MAKING AND LACK OF CONCENTRATION SYMPTOMS OF WORK-RELATED STRESS -3 BEHAVIOURAL SYMTOMS: ABSENTEEISM AGGRESSION DIMINISHED CREATIVITY AND INITIATIVE DROP IN WORK PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS WITH INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP MOOD SWINGS AND IRRITABILITY LOWER TOLERANCE OF FRUSTRATION AND IMPATIENCE DISINTEREST ISOLATION SOLUTIONS GENERAL HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CREATE TIME FOR YOURSELF ROUTINE EXERCISE/BRISK WALKS HEALTHY MEALS/ NO SKIPPING OF MEALS ADD FRUITS AND VEGGIES HEALTHY SOCIAL HABITS DON’T ALLEVIATE STRESS BY SMOKING, ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION ROUTINE MEDICAL CHECK-UPS RELAXATION / APPROPRIATE VACATION SOLUTIONS -2 LISTENING TO MUSIC BOOST YOUR SELF ESTEEM WITH POSTIVE THINKING AND CONFESSION TO SELF PRAYERS/ SPIRITUAL DEVOTION AVOID CROWDY SCHEDULES; DO MOST DIFFICULT TASK WHEN YOU ARE STILL FRESH LEARN TO DELEGATE RESPONSIBLY HAVE A FRIEND OF SAME SEX IN THE SYSTEM YOU CAN TALK TO. TALK OVER YOUR CONCERNS WITH DIRECT BOSS SEEK PROFESSIONAL COUNSELLING : PSYCHOLOGIST/DOCTOR. CAUTION STRESS COULD MASK A SERIOUS MEDICAL AILMENT STRESS COULD PREVENT EARLY DETECTION OF ANOTHER DEADLIER DISEASE STRESS CAN ALSO PREDISPOSE TO MORE SERIOUS PHYSICAL, MENTAL OR PSYCOSOCIAL ISSUES.
