The Tehran/Yalta Conference and the Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles




Took place in 1919 and officially ended World War I.
Was the first geopolitical conference.
It was the Treaty that was supposed to “End the war of all wars”
None of the Allied powers were happy with the settlement, and they did not
punish Germany, which is why they came back to power for a second world
war.
The Tehran Conference




First of three meetings between Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and
Joseph Stalin during World War II.
Stalin would only help the U.S. and Brittan if they recognized Stalin’s reign
and the partisans in Yugoslavia( a communist group), and also allow changing
the border between Poland and the USSR.
Roosevelt pledged that America would open a second front in France in the
spring of 1944.
The U.S. and Britain would send troops to help Stalin.
The Yalta Conference



This was the second of the three conferences between the same leaders.
They decided that the new Polish eastern border would follow the Curzon
Line, and that Poland would get some land of Germany.
Citizens of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia would have to go back to their
original country with or without their consent.
Different Allies


In World War I the main allied powers were France, Russian, British, Italy
and the United States. Main central powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary,
the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
In World War II the main allied powers were Great Britain, the Soviet Union,
and the United States. Main axes powers were Germany, Italy, and Japan.
Connections to the Book


There are different allies from the First World War to the second. In the book,
it talks about how Oceania switches allies to keep its power.
Stalin used the war to his advantage, because he negotiated with the U.S. and
Great Brittan to recognize his communist groups.
