How to help my child this week in Math ☺
Tuesday & Wednesday:
Your child will continue to learn about ordering numbers & finding equivalent
numbers by converting. If a number is in a fraction form, convert the number to a
decimal. If the number is in percent form, move the decimal two places to the left. If
you are looking for a percent from a model, count the squares shaded and make a
fraction and you might need to change it to a decimal to find the percent.
1. Change this fraction to a decimal:
5 4 . 00
5 is on
the inside
so divide
like this
Now divide to get 0.80 ☺
2. Change a decimal to a fraction. Remember place value first:
tenths
thousandths
00.005
hundredths
Say the decimal: 0.08 is said, “eight hundredths” so make
Simplify if necessary dividing the numerator & denominator by the number
4 that each number has in common.
3. Write the model as a fraction, decimal then percent:
9 blocks shaded out of 25
FRACTION
PERCENT
DECIMAL
Divide
25 9 . 00 = 0.36
0.36 move decimal to right 2 places = 36 %
