Round Off Rule
Round only the final answer not the intermediate values that occur during the calculation. Carry at least twice as
many decimal places as will be used in the final answer.
Round measures of center (mean, median, midrange) and measures of variation (range, standard deviation,
variance) to one more decimal place than is present in the original set of values.
Round z scores to two decimal places.
Round probabilities to 3 significant digits or keep the exact fraction if the exact fraction is easily
understandable.
Round the confidence interval limits for the proportion
to three significant digits.
Round the confidence interval limits for the mean to one more decimal place than is used for the original
data. W hen the original set of data is unknown and only the summary statistics ( , , s) are used round the
confidence interval limits to the same number of decimal places as the sample mean .
For sample size estimates for computing or round the computed sample size up to the next higher
whole number in order to ensure that the required sample size is at least as large as it should be.
Round the linear correlation coefficient to 3 decimal places.
Round
