Lesson 1 –
The Human Body

 Organ systems work together
to carry out life activities.
 We will study four organ
systems: the digestive,
respiratory, circulatory, and
excretory systems.
 Digestive – breaks down food
into nutrients
 Respiratory – brings oxygen
into the lungs
 Circulatory – carries oxygen
from lungs to
cells in the body
 Excretory – removes wastes
from the body
 These organ systems are
called transport systems,
because they transport
(move) things throughout
the body.
 Digestive System –
 Transports food & nutrients
 Respiratory System –
 Transports oxygen
 Circulatory System –
 Transports nutrients,
oxygen, and wastes
 Excretory System –
 Transports wastes such as
carbon dioxide and sweat
