Soxhlet extraction for wood and pulp application
Customer: Advance Agro Public Company Limited, Thailand
D.A. Research Center is a branch of Double A (1991) Public Company Limited which is an R&D
center for wood and pulp. In 1997, Double A became the first integrated pulp and paper manufacturer in Southeast Asia to be certified under ISO 14001, the environmental management
standard from AJA EQS, England, as certified by UKAS (UNITED KINGDOM ACCREDITATION
SERVICE). Double A Paper Tree soars high with its globally competitive characteristics.
Application: Determination of extractives from wood and pulp The extractives such as scrap wood, a fatty wax, terpene, saturated & unsaturated fatty acid,
sitosterol, etc., are extracted from wood chips and wood pulp by acetone. The extraction unit
is used for 2 purposes; Firstly, the extracted substance in the beaker is used for checking the
quantity of the substance. Secondly, the sample in the thimble is used for checking the chemical parameters in a next procedure.
Equipment: Soxhlet Extraction System B-811
The extraction unit is the most convenient and versatile of all automated extraction systems,
offering 4 different extraction techniques in one unit. The electronic unit controls the sequence
of the three steps (extraction, rinsing, drying) of between one to four samples in parallel. No
manual intervention is necessary after the programming activity and the starting instructions
have been completed.
Benefit / Conclusion: Easy to use
“The B-811 fulfills our demands upon an extraction system for this application. It is simple to
handle and offers optimal safety features.”
Mr. Piyasut Baisungnern, Woodchips and Fiber Researcher
EN-060-12/11
It is easy to set up the instrument program from the first to the last step and it fulfills our needs.
The operator does not need to monitor and stand in front of the instrument during the extraction
process. In addition, the instrument has different safety features such as “no start of the
process if the installation is incorrect or dry beaker monitoring.
