LEED V4 is coming soon. http://www.usgbc.org/leed/v4 Get to know the next generation of LEED Wood inputs and sourcing distance credits from the existing standard have been wrapped together in the new LEED V4 standard. To achieve the credit, a project must use “at least 25%, by cost, of the total value of permanently installed building products. Read below for more detail. BUILDING PRODUCT DISCLOSURE AND OPTIMIZATION – SOURCING OF RAW MATERIALS MRc3. Leadership Extraction Practices (1 point) Use products that meet at least one of the responsible extraction criteria below for at least 25%, by cost, of the total value of permanently installed building products in the project. Materials New wood products. Wood products must be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or USGBC-approved equivalent. (Currently there are no approved equivalents). Materials reuse. Reuse includes salvaged, refurbished, or reused products. Recycled content. Recycled content is the sum of postconsumer recycled content plus one-half the preconsumer recycled content, based on cost. Bio-based materials. Bio-based products must meet the Sustainable Agriculture Network’s Sustainable Agriculture Standard. Bio-based raw materials must be tested using ASTM Test Method D6866 and be legally harvested, as defined by the exporting and receiving country. Exclude hide products, such as leather and other animal skin material. USGBC approved program. Other programs for other material types meeting leadership extraction criteria that become available will be evaluated and added as appropriate. Source Location Products that meet the above criteria are valued according to source location (extraction, manufacture, and purchase point must be within the distances noted below): Products sourced within 100 miles of the project site are valued at 200% of their cost Products sourced domestically within 500 miles of the project site are valued at 150% of their cost Final product value is determined by the following equation: (base product value x valuation factor based on extraction criteria)*(valuation factor based on location) Structure and enclosure materials may not constitute more than 30% of the value of compliant building products. For composite materials and assemblies, if only part of the product or material meets the requirements, count only that fraction, based on weight. For the scope of this credit furniture, piping, pipe insulation, ducts, duct insulation, conduit, plumbing fixtures, faucets, showerheads, and lamp housings may be included if they are included consistently in cost-based Materials and Resources credits. Exclude wood products purchased for temporary use on the project.
