7. EXTRACTION SYSTEM FOR FAT, SOXTHERM 4XX, GERHARD
The operating principle
Soxhlet method is used to determine total fat content of foods.
The system allows the reduction of working time in terms of reproducibility comparable with
traditional Soxhlet method.
Extraction process is conducted automatically by pneumatic valves.
Operation consists in 4 steps run automatically:

Stage IV:
boiling step - the sample is immersed in solvent
step reduction of solvent - the solvent and is collected in the tank falls until
the sample is not immersed in solvent
washing step - the sample is washed with solvent condensate reflux
solvent recovery stage - extraction is completed, and the solvent is distilled
and stayed retired. Cups extraction are high on the heating unit.
- Advantages
• five times faster than traditional Soxhlet method;
• reproducibility comparable with traditional Soxhlet method -1% or better;
• can achieve 2 to 6 determinations at the same time;
• applicable to all types of samples and solvents;
• working with three maximum temperature: 135 oC, 200 oC and 300 oC;
• Ex heating block provided with double sensor Pt 100 for temperature control and
overheating protection;
• solvent is recovered automatically after each analysis in 90%;
• the four stages of extraction and automatic lifting glasses of extraction is accomplished
by pneumatic valves;
• automated control of all functions.
Applications
Determination of solid fat content by extraction - liquid under Soxhlet methods,
Twisselman, Goldfisch, Rose - Gottleb, Weibull in materials such as:
- Foods such as meat, margarine, mayonnaise, chicken, mustard, chocolate, milk;
- Fat in eggs;
- Mineral oil in rocks;
- Lubricating oil, residual water and mud;
- Pesticides in soil;
- EOX in the soil;
- Artificial additives and rubber materials.
The control system allows control and monitoring of max. 4 extraction systems, each using
a different program. The program is stored in control unit.

- Multifunction display with 32 characters allows programming simpler.
