Ancient Civilization Research Project
6th Grade World History
April 11, 2016
Dear Parent/Guardian:
The final term is here, and the 6th Grade World History classes will be completing a project that reflects their ability
to complete research, compose essays, and present information. This project will be completed in THREE phases,
which will make it much more manageable and less overwhelming for teachers, parents, and students. Each phase
will be worth TWO activity grades; the project as a whole is worth six activity grades. In order to ensure that
students are able to maintain their project and not lose important components of the project, we ask that
students have a separate folder dedicated to the project. There is not a specific folder that is needed, but a threepronged folder with pockets is highly suggested.
The first phase’s focus is on research! Students will choose an ancient civilization and the topics related to that
civilization to research. After students choose their focus area, they will need to complete their research. A rubric
has been provided in order to explain the requirements and expectations. Students will be shown examples of
appropriate work for each phase; examples can also be found on your child’s teacher’s school website.
***Please note that after the initial choice of topic is made, it cannot be changed.
Student research can be completed at home or during an after-school session. Students will have three opportunities
to stay after school in order to use school computers on the following dates: Thursday- 4/14; Tuesday- 4/19, and
Thursday-4/21. However, before they are allowed to stay, they MUST sign up with their World History teachers
before the day of the research session. Students are not allowed turn in a form on the chosen research day
without prior approval from their teacher in order to ensure that there is ample computer space. Students
who do not follow these directions will not be able to take part in the research session.
Phase 1 is due on April 22, 2016. Phase 1 will NOT be accepted before or after this date.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email your child’s individual World History teacher using the
