Understanding the science of learning has become even more critical with the integration of technology in

Join us on Friday, Jan. 8, as Dr. Rishi Desai, currently the chief medical officer and co-founder of Osmosis
and former leader at Khan Academy Medical, talks about some of the major challenges in health science
education today, as well as the scientific evidence behind specific formats and techniques that help struggling

About the Presenters
Rishi Desai, MD, MPH
Chief Medical Officer, Osmosis
Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinical Instructor, Stanford University
Dr. Rishi Desai is a pediatric infectious disease physician with a public health background
who currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Osmosis and recently led Khan
Academy Medicine. Dr. Desai had an accelerated education, completing high school and
receiving his BS in Microbiology from UCLA by the age of 18. He completed his medical
training at UCSF and went on to work at medical centers including those affiliated with Harvard University, Boston
University, University of Southern California, and Stanford University. He returned to UCLA to earn his MPH
in epidemiology, and then spent two years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Epidemic
Intelligence Service Officer investigating disease outbreaks, before beginning his work in online medical education.
Shiv M. Gaglani, BA
Chief Executive Officer, Osmosis
Shiv Gaglani is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Osmosis. Shiv’s primary
passion is developing innovative and scalable solutions in the fields of healthcare and
education. To this end he curated the Smartphone Physical, which debuted at TEDMED
and the Patient Promise, a growing movement aimed at improving the clinician-patient
relationship through partnership in pursuing healthy lifestyle behaviors. After graduating
magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2010 with degrees in engineering and health policy, Shiv began his MD/
MBA degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Harvard Business School.
