Canada is located to the north of United
States, among the Oceans Atlantic and
Pacific. Canada is the second bigger
country of the world, and has as capital
the city of Ottawa. Great part of its
surface is water and the country is full
of forests.
The first residents of the region were
peoples that came of Siberia, which
arrived through the Strait of Bering, and
the Inuit peoples that came of Asia. The
first Europeans that arrived in Canada
were the Vikings, but they didn’t stay
because the natives that resided in this
region were very aggressive.
However, the Englishmen and French
didn’t get scared of the natives and they
continued exploring the wealth of this
region, forming colonies. In sixteen
ninety France and England faced
between them through a problem of
limits, in which Englishmen won. In
nineteen twenty six England recognized
the Independence of Canada.
Canada has 10 counties and three
territories. It is a constitutional
monarchy and a federal state with a
democratic parliament. The official
languages of Canada are English and
French. Canada has a population of
approximately 31 million inhabitants, of
many different cultures.
Canada limits to the North with the
Glacier Arctic Ocean and to south with
United States. To the northwest is
Alaska.
Canada is a very cold country. The
winters can be very hard in many
regions of the country, with risks of
tempests of snow, storms of ice and
temperatures below the fifty centigrade
degree in the distant north.
But not the whole country is cold.
Eighty percent of the Canadian lives to
two thousands kilometers of United
Estates along the frontier, where is
located the climes more template of the
country.
The forests are located by all the
country. In the North of Canada are the
"Rocky Mountains", an important
mountain range. In the Southwest is the
Canadians prairies, where is practiced
the agriculture. In the Southeast is
located the Big Lakes, that feed the river
San Lorenzo, one of the most important
from Canada.
Great part of the Canadian territory is
covered through forests, where it
highlights the pine and the cedar. Also
possesses big prairies.
The fauna is very varied. It’s possible to
find bears, wolves, coyotes, American
lions and pumas among other carnivorous
animals. In the arctic regions there are
polar bears. In some areas can be seen
beavers and numerous rodents. In the
plane regions there are moles. Some
areas of Canada are also the habitat of
antelopes, reindeers and elks.
Canada is an industrial country with high
standards of life and great technology. It
possesses big deposits of natural gas in
the east coast, although their economy
this based principally in the exploitation
of natural resources.
The Free Trade Agreement between
Canada and the USA of nineteen eighty
nine and the North American Free Trade
Agreement that includes to USA, Mexico
and Canada of nineteen ninety four has
generated a great increment in the
commerce and the economic integration
of Canada with the USA.
Canada is a Federal state under a system
of parliamentary monarchy. Their
sovereign is Isabel II with the title of
Queen from Canada, the same that is
Queen of England. The first Canadian
Minister is Stephen Harper.
The Canadian culture has been strongly
influenced by the culture and British
traditions, as well as through the French
culture, although in smaller measure, and
it’s a result of its colonial past. The
American culture has also influenced a lot
Canada due to its proximity.
The Canadian literature can be divided in
Literature in English and Literature in
French. The literature in English at the
beginning spoke of territories without
exploring, although with the years it began
to assimilate more to the European
Literature. During the Twenty century the
literature was strongly influenced by the
social processes that affected to the world.
The literature in French until half of the XX
century spoke of the religion and the
history of Canada. But of there from now
on was centered more in the social
problems, and it became more realist and
introspective.
The music is very important inside of the
Canadian culture. It is part of the
education from very early ages, so much
in the public environment as in the private
one. The organization of symphonic
orchestras, camera groupings and Festivals
of Jazz through many cities of the country
gives good sample of the importance that
has the music in this country.
Canada has successful singers at
international level as Avril Lavigne, Bryan
Adams, Shania Twain, Nelly Furtado, Lara
Fabian and Alanis Morissette among
others.
As for folkloric music, we notice three
influences very strong: Celtic, French and
indigenous music. Among the best groups
of this music type is Great Big Sea.
Among the folkloric dances the most
important are “The Gang” and the “Beat
in pairs”, as well as the ritual dances of the
indigenous towns, also known as “Fist
Nations”. In the inauguration of the PanAmerican games of Winnipeg in 1999,
they put many of those dances.
Due to their cultural diversity, Canada
doesn't have a typical suit, but between its
representative suits they highlight the
uniform of the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police and the suits of the first indigenous
inhabitants.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is a
police force of federal character that is a
symbol of the Canadian culture. Many
remembrances related with the Mounted
Police are produced for the tourists.
The English and French cuisines are
popular. Quebec has typical foods as the
fried potatoes with poutine, which is done
with fresh cheese and sauce of meat.
Among the English Canadians, there is
certain predilection for the pies of chicken
or meat.
Another product typical Canadian is the
smoky salmon, because this is consumed
in every country, contrary to other plates
or foods like the aforementioned poutine
and the buffalo meat.
The sport is an aspect of the life important
in Canada. The activities outdoors are part
of the Canadians. The winter sports are
practiced by great majority of the people.
The Hockey on ice is the national sport and
almost all the children practice it at some
time. The Canadians enjoy all type of
skating on ice. In the summers, they are
practiced all type of aquatic activities as ski
or diving.
The biggest attractiveness of Canada is
unquestionably their natural patrimony:
more than two million lakes, hundred of
parks and spectacular mountains.
The most important and visited cities are
Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montréal,
Québec and Calgary.

The festivals of summer continue inclusive
in September. One of the most spectacular
is the festival of hot-air globes in Québec.
In Toronto you will find of everything: Bars,
Discos, Concerts, and Theater, parties of
Hockey,
Basketball
and
Baseball
professionals. No far are located the
waterfalls of the Niagara and the casinos of
Ontario.
To buy don’t lack business centers with all
type of products, like the Eaton Centre in
the center of Toronto. In Alberta this
located the biggest business center of the
world, the West Edmonton Mall.
One of the obliged visits to the beautiful
city of Montreal is the Museum of National
History that is in the old port.
