No Worries No Worries Just copy down all the RED Geography What? • Geography – is the study of earth in all its variety. – Two Types • Physical - Land, Water, Plants and Animals. • Human – The study of people. 5 THEMES OF GEOGRAPHY MR HELP • M- Movement • R- Region • HE- Human/Environment • L- Location • P- Place MOVEMENT • What is movement? • Well since places are not secluded, • People, Goods, and Ideas will move between two places. • Examples: Roads Roads Airports Airports Rivers Rivers Railroad Railroad Region • There are three basic types of regions. • Formal regions are those defined by governmental or administrative boundaries (i. e., United States, Birmingham, Brazil). These regional boundaries are not open to dispute, therefore physical regions fall under this category (i. e., The Rockies, the Great Lakes States). • Functional regions are those defined by a function (i. e., TVA, United Airlines Service area or a newspaper service area). If the function ceases to exists, the region no longer exists. • Vernacular regions are those loosely defined by people's perception (i. e., The South, The Middle East). What are the consequences of the changes they have made? • 4. How have they adapted to changes in their environment.
