To provide the student with a more advanced inpatient rotation for the clinical
management and treatment of severely ill hospitalized psychiatric patients.
 To perform a comprehensive diagnostic assessment
 To formulate a multidisciplinary treatment plan
 To know the psychotropic medications used for treatment of diverse psychiatric
disorders
 To present patient work-ups to colleagues
 To increase awareness of the administrative component of practicing in an
inpatient setting
The student will be expected to function as a “junior resident” with primary
responsibility for several inpatients, including conducting a formal psychiatric
examination for diagnostic purposes, documentation of same, formulation of a
Multi-disciplinary treatment plan and regular supervision by the senior residents and
medical director. Research projects are a possibility and should be discussed with the
director.
