Introduction
A study was done at Central Connecticut State University
in a Geometry, Probability, and Statistics math course
containing 24 mixed college aged students.
The mean age of the population was 20 years and 5.5 months old.
The median age of the population was 19.
The mode of the population was 19.
The study gathered information about social networking
habits and the use of communication devices of these
students.
The study was conducted using a
paper and pencil survey in class

Summary
 Short Term Benefits:
 Information is readily accessible when you need it
 Allows one to communicate quickly
 Allows for legible handwriting
 Long Term Benefits:
 Communication between students/teachers & teacher/teacher
 Keep track of previous work
 Always available (or within a lesser amount of time)
 Variety of materials is greater
 Drawbacks:
 Both students and professors will be more demanding of each other
 Technology failures
 Decrease in penmanship
 Unreliable information
 Keeping Up to Date with New Technology
How Might This Information Change the way you
Teach in 5 years?
 Being technologically
available to your students
 SMART BOARDS
 Transition between “old
school” style (chalkboard,
text books) approach to
teaching VS. a
technological approach
 More time needed to grab
the concept of new
technology
Reflection:
 Our team was surprised by our findings. We knew
that technology was becoming more prevalent in our
school systems and peoples’ lives. However, we did
not expect our findings to indicate that people were
using similar technology devices due to the fact that
there are so many options.
 We also found that students at CCSU communicate
more effectively through technology and have come to
the realization that the world as a whole is becoming
more technologically advanced.
