CENTENNIAL HONORS COLLEGE Western Illinois University Undergraduate Research Day 2016 PerformancePresentation “WorkingwiththeComposer”-DavidRappenecker’sStringQuartetno.2 SamanthaFlores,LucianaHontila,VladHontila,andMilagrosGallardo FacultyMentor:RichardHughey Music In this project we will explain the process of how to interpret a piece by David Rappenecker who is a WIUAlumnusincompositionandwrotetheworkspecificallyforthepreviousPresident’sInternational StringQuartetin2009. We will go through the work phases, that as performers we need to take, in order to transmit and achievethemessageandtheintentionofthecomposers’work. Acomparisonwillbemadeofwhatitlikeistoworkwithalivingcomposerandhearhisfeedback,but also compare the situation with steps to perform classical music literature of the past hundred years basedonperformancepracticeandtradition.
