Religion: The Gods (Rachel Frey)
They had over 2,000 gods and goddesses that they worshiped. The
gods were human and half animal. Egyptians worshiped gods with
animal sacrifices and with incense and many processions where
people carried the image of the god from one place to another. People
believed that all of Egypt belonged to the gods.They also believed that
the pharaoh represented earth for the gods. So to them everything in
Egypt belonged to the Pharaoh.
Religion: Worship of Gods (Rachel Frey)
Pharaoh Akhenaten tried to tell the Egyptians that there was only one
real god and that he was the only god worth worshiping. This god’s
name was Aten. After this Pharaoh died the Egyptians started
worshiping all of the other gods again like Anubis, Isis, Amon, and
Osiris.
Religion: Second Life (Rachel Frey)
They had a whole theory for what you had to do when you died. First,
you would go to Anubis and he would weigh your soul and a feather. If
your soul weighed more than a feather then you would be killed again
or punished in a very dark way. They also believed that there was a
second world that you would go to after you died. It would be just like
this one so when they put you in your grave they would also put
everything you would need in the second life in it with you. They would
put more things in the higher class than the lower class. They believed
that the pharaoh deserved more than anyone.
Mythology: Seth's Jealousy

The god Seth was angry and jealous. He had been living in the shadow of his brother, Osiris, for a
countless time. He gathered people who felt resentful at Osiris for bringing peace to Egypt, and couldn’t
bear to see the devotion and total worshipfullness that the people showed to him. Meanwhile, Osiris had
just returned from a long trip and was happy to see his kingdom again. He stopped at Memphis, and Seth
ran out to greet him. With sweetened words, Seth invited Osiris to a party thrown for him. Osiris agreed
readily, and while they were embracing each other and chatting, Seth secretly took his measurements and
took them to a carpenter, and ordered him to make a fine box adorned with many fine paintings and
ornaments. While the feast was young and merry, Seth announced a contest: whoever fit in the box
perfectly would win it. Every man took part just for the sake of it, but each and every one could never
manage to fit in it exactly. Then it was tall, fair Osiris’ turn. He fit in the box perfectly, and laughing, tried to
sit up. With an angry cry, Seth and his many followers closed the box and sent it down the Nile, to be Osiris’
final resting place.

They later started to worship the Greek gods as well as the old
Egyptian gods. The Greek also started worshiping the Egyptian
Goddess Isis. They learned about her from traders from Egypt.
Mythology: The Sun and Osiris (Eugene Kim)
After Isis, Osiris’ wife, put him together again, Osiris was believed to rise every spring and
die each winter. Osiris’ face is green because the Ancient Egyptians believed that rebirth
was possible.
The Ancient Egyptians said that Ra, Lord of the Sun and Creator of all Gods threatened to
destroy mankind but relented afterwards. Here is how the story goes: Ra was so
frustrated with mankind one day because of his rebellion, that he wanted to destroy
mankind. He said that he would destroy them with the sun, in which he is in charge of, in
the form of Hathor, a goddess and a daughter of Ra. After killing several people in the
desert, she returned speedily to her father. But Ra saw that Hathor loved lust, warfare,
and blood too much. So Ra ordered to have an amazing amount of 7,000 jars of beer
mixed with red ocher to make it look like blood. Hathor gulped it all down, became drunk,
and forgot about killing people. Now Ra wanted to save man, but, later, he was tired of
earthly affairs and matters and retired to the sky. And now the Egyptians believe that he
now rides on the Celestial Cow, his daughter, Nut, Goddess of the Sky.
Mythology: The Moon and the
Eye

The Ancient Egyptians believe that there was a war between two gods-Seth, the traitor, and Horus, the son
of Isis and Osiris. During the battle they say that Seth poked out Horus’ eye. Seth found the eye, damaged
it, and divided it into 6 pieces. Thoth, a god, renewed the damaged eye by spitting on it. The new eye is
called wedjat. Wedjat means restoring the eye. The Ancient Egyptians believe after Horus’ eye was poked
out, it now means wholeness and completion.
The moon was not as important to the Ancient Egyptians as the sun, but they still wrote about it. They
thought the moon was the sun’s replica at night. The Sun was said to rise over the living people’s world and
set only to appear into the Underworld and rise again. Every day, Ra was said to have a vessel that he
would sail in, controlling the sun. He would battle every day the giant serpent in the Underworld to get to
the dead spirits and give them a little light. Sometimes the snake’s shadow would fall upon Ra, which would
supposedly create an eclipse. But if Ra ever lost the battle on the way to the Underworld, then the sun
would be lost forever and all life in Egypt would die.
