PROPOSAL TO DESIGNATE AN EXISTING COURSE AS PROVIDING COMPUTER COMPETENCY UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE University of North Carolina at Wilmington Wilmington, NC 28403 Course Title: Script Analysis Department: Theatre Course Number: THR 165 Degree(s) for which course(s) will meet competency: B.A. in Theatre *Current Catalogue Description: How to read a play. Study of the structure of drama, including both traditional and contemporary forms of dramatic literature. Emphasis on the play text as a blue-print for theatrical production. Description of assignment(s) that involve basic computer skills including knowledge of campus use policies, facility with standard applications, and awareness of legal and ethical issues: Students will write a major critical research assignment on the plays of a particular playwright. The assignment will include an extensive annotated bibliography and a final paper, and be completed under the close supervision of the instructor. Using the tools of online searching, the student will gain facility finding resourses using Randall Library’s computerized tools along with the use of Interlibrary Loan. They will be required to learn to identify reliable on-line resourses, and to use Randal Library’s indices and databases in their search. Throughout all stages of the project, the student will work closely with the reference librarian who specializes in the arts. How will the computer competency be evaluated? Computer competency will be evaluated on the depth, breadth, and quality of computerized research. *If changes in the catalogue description are indicated, this proposal must first be approved by the appropriate school or college curriculum committee.
