GREEK THEATRE

Actors!
• All of the actors were men.
• The dancers and singers were
called a chorus.
• Some actors wore boots to add
to their height.
• They also wore gloves so people
at the back could see what they
were doing with their hands.
Masks!
• Masks were also worn so the
people at the back could see .
• Masks were either happy for
comedy or sad for tragedy.
• A mask would cover an actor’s
entire head (including hair)
• The mouth piece was quite big
so the actor’s voice was
amplified.
Costumes!
• In a comedy an actor would wear
brightly coloured clothes and in a
tragedy dark clothes.
• Costumes would tell the audience what
sort of character the actor was.
• Most costumes were made of linen or
silk.
• The actors used regular boots to act in
unless the actor was playing as a
woman he wore cothornous which is a
high heeled wooden shoe.
The theatre.
• In the theatre there was a stone
stand where the dancers and
the singers stood.
• Below that this was where the
orchestra would have stood and
played.
• Altogether they were called the
chorus.

• Parodos- where the
singers came in.
• Skene- where the
• Actors got changed and
performed.
• Koilon-where the audience
sat.
• Orchestra- where the singers
and musicians stood and played.
