Asteroids are small, rocky objects
that orbit the sun.
Most asteroids are found in between
mars and Jupiter.
This is called an asteroid belt.
Scientist think there are about 3,000
asteroids in an asteroid belt.
Asteroids come in lots of sizes.
The biggest asteroid, Ceres is about
600 miles across.
Astronomers consider Ceres as a
dwarf planet.

Ceres was the first asteroid
discovered, it was discovered in 1801.
from small pieces of rock.
The pieces stuck to One of the
smallest asteroids was discovered in
1991.
Astronomers think asteroids are
formed like planets.
Both came together forming bigger
objects.
Many of the objects some together
forming planets.
Some of the object did not stick
together.
Those objects became asteroids.
The pull of Jupiter’s gravity might
have stopped the objects that are a
part of an asteroid belt from sticking
together to make an asteroid belt.
Some asteroids may be the remains
of comets.
