He composed a suite of pieces For each planet in turn Mars to Jupiter, Neptune to Saturn. The Romans used the names of Gods To identify each one But Holst preferred astrology, Wrote horoscopes for fun! So all the seven planets Have a different atmosphere Venus, love and beauty And Mars who creates fear! Mars the bringer of war, Mars the bringer of war. Spoken parts: Violins start the rhythm off Timpani boom like mortar shells Military sounds come from the brass This is the war to end all wars!
