How does soil form?
• Rocks  smaller particles  tiny
particles(Dirt)  Weathering and organic
remains make Soil.
• Dirt is tiny particles of rock that has been
weathered.
• Soil is dirt with
organics in it.

• The longer the rocks are exposed the
more soil is made...
• It takes hundreds of years to make
fertile soil.
• Rock is broken down and made into
soil, sometimes it does transport into a
new area and make new soil there.

• Residual soils have formed in place
and not been moved far from where it
has been broken down and weathered.
• Transported has been moved from one
area to another.

Protecting our soil
• In order to protect our soil we need to
understand how it is made.
• More plants means more soil. The
water will carry away the soil.
• Save the trees!
