Erosion: Process by which soil and rock particles are worn away and moved elsewhere
by a transport agent such as wind, water, or ice.
Soil: Material found on the surface of Earth that is composed of organic and inorganic
material.
Deposition: Process in which sediments, soil, and rocks are deposited or added to
landmass.
Chemical Weathering: Process where rocks are broken down and chemically altered.
Mechanical Weathering: Process where rocks are physically broken down without any
chemical changes.
Transport rock/soil: Movement of material across Earth's surface by water, wind, ice
or gravity.
Leaching: Loss of soluble substances from the soil by heavy rains.
Residual rock/soil: Material that is remaining or left over after weathering and erosion.
Soil horizon: A layer generally parallel to the soil crust whose physical characteristics
differ from the layers above and beneath.
Parent Material: The bottom of a soil horizon, generally bedrock.
