particular focus on the complete abolition of nuclear
weapons.
Our programmes are aimed at ensuring that the recent

SESSION X: WORK PROGRAMME PEACE & DISARMAMENT –
THREE YEAR PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
Three-year perspective and strategic objectives
The WFC’s Disarmament Programme works closely with its partners to ensure
that the recent surge in political momentum for the vision of a world free of
nuclear weapons translates into concrete and effective action toward nuclear
abolition.
It sets priority on building support for two key agreements of the 2010 Non
Proliferation Treaty Review Conference:
1) Advancing the UN Secretary-General’s Five-Point Plan on nuclear
disarmament, which proposes, inter alia, beginning preparatory work on a
Nuclear Weapons Convention or agreement on a framework of separate
mutually reinforcing instruments;
2) Furthering the humanitarian approach to nuclear disarmament through
promotion of the application of International Humanitarian Law to nuclear
weapons and raising awareness of the humanitarian, climatic and
environmental consequences of use of nuclear weapons. [Includes
collaboration with the ATOM Project.]

SESSION X: WORK PROGRAMME PEACE & DISARMAMENT –
THREE YEAR PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
Work Area 1: Highlighting and spreading best disarmament policies – to identify
and spread exemplary policies and policy-initiatives that implement nuclear
disarmament goals, and engage and mobilize parliamentarians to this end. [This
entails continuation of our strong collaboration with Parliamentarians for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament (PNND) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).]
Deliverables:
• Promote research and publications – including Parliamentary Handbook – on
good practice on nuclear disarmament through offering online tools, producing
information material and organizing parliamentary events.
• Expand and further develop the nuclear disarmament tool-kit on FuturePolicy.org
and producing an e-book version of the Handbook.
• Have the Parliamentary Handbook translated in additional key languages –
including Arabic, Russian and Spanish – and released through high-level events.
• Organize and assist launch of and hearings on Handbook in parliaments.

will focus on Moving beyond nuclear deterrence (January 2013) and the
third issue (topic and release date not yet determined).

"Climate change, Nuclear risks, and Nuclear
disarmament: From security threats to sustainable
peace".
• Organization of a parliamentary roundtable on
