Vocabulary
• Sprain- a sudden or violent twist or wrench
of a joint with tearing or stretching of
ligaments.
• Strain- a muscle or tendon impaired,
injured or weakened by stretching to
maximum extension and tautness; an
injury caused by overuse,misuse, or
excessive pressure.

• Stress fracture- a hairline crack in a bone,
especially a foot or leg, often too fine to show up
on X-rays; caused by repeated or prolonged
stress on the bone just to the point of breaking.
• Pain- an alarm or protective mechanism
signaling that there is something wrong inside or
outside the body that requires action to prevent
further damage.
• Endorphins- the body’s own natural device to
diminish pain.
Causes of muscle soreness
• Perform the activity beyond what you are
accustomed to.
• Use same muscle for extended period of
time.
• Activity is jerky or bouncy.
To reduce soreness
• Increase blood flow and oxygen to the
area.
• Relax muscles
