The Heart of Man
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall
see God." (Matt. 5:8)
1
The Heart of Man
Because of this statement of Jesus, Christian
discipleship is often called "the religion of the
pure in heart."
2
The Heart of Man
But what is the heart that must become pure
and how does God change it?
3
The Heart of Man
What does the Bible teach?
4
The Heart is a Treasure Chest
"A good man out of the good treasure of his
heart brings forth good things, and an evil man
out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things."
(Matt. 12:35)
5
The Heart is a Treasure Chest
"But those things which proceed out of the
mouth come from the heart, and they defile a
man...."
6
The Heart is a Treasure Chest
"For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts,
murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false
witness, blasphemies." (Matt. 15:18-19)

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why
do you think evil in your hearts?" (Matt. 9:4)

The Heart Is Intellectual
But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His
spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves,
He said to them, "Why do you reason about
these things in your hearts?" (Mark 2:8)

The Heart Is Emotional
Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God
for Israel is that they may be saved. (Rom. 10:1)
15
The Heart Is Emotional
Since you have purified your souls in obeying
the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of
the brethren, love one another fervently with a
pure heart. (1 Peter 1:22)

The Heart Is Ethical
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater
than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if
our heart does not condemn us, we have
confidence toward God. (1 John 3:20-21)

The Heart Is Volitional
So let each one give as he purposes in his
heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God
loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:7)

But God be thanked that though you were
slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart
that form of doctrine to which you were
delivered. (Rom. 6:17)
