OBJ: Given images, video, activity sheet SWBAT
describe the basic features of an electric circuit and
explain how a series circuit differs from a parallel
circuit with 70% accuracy.
DN: HW check- Batteries Booklet
Complete & hand-in Midterm Review Quiz#1 scantron
ACT: Video: Series & Parallel Circuits
Introduction to Features of a circuit, series circuits and
parallel circuits; Text, read p. 61-66.
HW: Complete Electric Circuit Booklet; Work on
Quarter #2 Study Guide and read Midterm Review #2
Answer Key; Interim Exam Jan 22; EM Exam Jan 29
Features of an Electric Circuit
Contains resistor(s)
ex: fan, motor, bulb, bell
Contains voltage source
ex: battery, generator, outlet (power
plant), solar cells (Sun)
Contains wires
making a closed path (= circuit)
May contain switch
turn circuit on and off
Circuit Symbols
Series Circuit = one path
Either all lights on or all lights off (ex: flashlight,
small bathroom)
1→ 2 or more bulbs, bulbs dimmer in series
circuit as compared to parallel circuit
Parallel Circuit = two or more paths
Each light bulb can be turned on or off
independently (ex: classroom, kitchen/living
room)
1 → 2 or more bulbs, bulbs brighter in parallel
circuit as compared to a series circuit
Series and Parallel Circuit
Compare Series to Parallel Circuit
