Heading 2 Special Characters To add special characters such as copyright, en dash, accents , etc., go to Insert > Special Characters > Select what you need. Note: If you are copying and pasting from Word, save your Word file as Plain Text format (.txt), clean your text and then paste to Contribute. Once text is in Contribute, format special characters. Special Characters Links Highlight the word or sentence you want to link. Click on Link and select Browse to Web Page Links Under Browse to Web page tab, enter the URL under Web address (URL), select Browse button to make sure it is a working link Links Mac interface Absolute Links An absolute link is the full URL of the webpage. An absolute link looks like http://herbergerinstitute.asu.edu/students/index.php. A relative link looks like /students/index.php or ../students/index.php. It is important to convert all of our links into absolute links. To do this, you must copy the URL you browsed, click on Drafts and Recent Pages and paste it to the HREF: window Add a PDF Naming Convention Recommendation: • Lowercase • No special characters. • 25 characters maximum. Example: my_file_name_112509.pdf Link > File on My Computer > Browse > Select > OK Spell Check Before Sending for Publish check your draft for spelling errors. Includes How do I find the include? You will be provided with a list of includes from the Communications department. This list is located on Google docs, so you can have access at anytime. Include files are usually in html format. Includes What do I do next? Copy and paste the include URL address to Contribute. Edit and Send for Publish as normal. After the file has been published, make sure to check all the pages that are affected. Web Contents Submission When do I use Contribute? • To make simple text changes • To Add PDFs to your web site. Communications will need to re-approve. For events that are updated within one week of the event, liaisons must contact Heather Landes and Amy Ng via e-mail to expedite approval. Web Contents Submission When do I use the Web update online form? http://herbergerinstitute.asu.edu/faculty/resources/communications/ design_web_update_form.php • If none of the options above apply to your request, then submit a Web update • This could be for navigation changes, adding new Web pages, adding images, etc. •Content to be formatted in a table Contribute Office Hours Every second Wednesday of each month from 1:30–2:30 p.m. Location: Communications office The communications team will provide individual support during these office hours. We will have computers available for you to use.
