Traveling Abroad – Foreign Prescription Claims
• Are foreign claims covered when traveling abroad?
• Yes, claims will process based on the American equivalent NDC.
• If an American equivalent NDC does not exist, the claim will pay at a
non-preferred copay
• How are the claims processed?
• When filling a prescription abroad you will need to pay out of pocket for
the medication and then submit the necessary direct claim form
(including receipt showing all prescription information, drug name,
strength, quantity, amount paid, date of service, NDC, etc.) to Express
Scripts for the claim to be adjudicated, and if covered by the benefit,
will be reimbursed via check for the amount paid minus any applicable
deductible and/ or copay.
