BACKGROUND
•

Growing community demand for solar and domestic wind turbine installation for
Electrical Contractors has energized the establishment of a new training centre at
TAFE SA Regional Whyalla Campus.
In response to local industry demand and the Government’s commitment to
environmental sustainability Whyalla Campus will be building and commissioning a
new Centre for Renewable Energy to be completed end July 2012.

Students will complete competencies from the UEE22107 National Qualifications
with competencies specifically selected to provide training in new and emerging
clean technologies and services
Outcome for students will be the:
Certificate 2 in Sustainable Energy/Career start
(Prevocational/pre apprenticeship course linked with Electrical)
Certificate 2 in Renewable Energy
Certificate 4 in Electrical
Certificate 4 in Renewable Energy

Unique use in TAFE
Web based and can be accessed by other computers on the network
It can access devices remotely using Modbus TCP/IP over their network ie: if they
wish to monitor another campus, it is easy to implement
Multiple students can access at the same time
Logged data can be extracted into Excel or CSV format for detailed analysis ie:
solar irradiation and power output of the inverters.

OUTCOMES

Computer technology allows students to monitor the power generated daily in
varying weather conditions.
Site development will prove to be a valuable learning experience for all students
that are involved and will play an important part of the hands-on component of the
course.
